Hawaa Hawaai Review: Must Watch For Modern Kids

Hawaa Hawaai is a simple, compelling, rags to riches sports story which is must watch for kids, and adults.

Hawaa-Hawaai-still

Director: Amole Gupte
Music: Hitesh Sonik
Cast: Saqib Saleem, Partho Gupte, Pragya Yadav, Ashfaque Khan.A poor chai-wallah reaching the heights continues to be flavor of the season. Hawaa Hawaai is a simple, compelling, rags to riches sports story which is must watch for kids, and adults.

Must watch because modern kids are expected to pick up far more valuable messages, than what they are currently getting:

– the value of money

– the way 70% kids of the world are surviving, happy & smiling amidst poverty

– how absence of father (earning member) can change family’s future

– passion for a cause

– that the poor kids on streets aren’t untouchables

– the extent friends can go to help a friend

– amount of hard work required to realize a dream

Bollywood barely has half a dozen decent, no-one to someone, sports movies in their 100 year history.  Chak De, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Lagaan, Boxer, Hip Hip Hurray are crowned by Iqbal.

The film’s climax also seems lifted from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which wasn’t required.

The cast is good and convincing, as expected from a team which has an impressive background Cv.

Amol Gupte was with Taare Zameen Par and Stanley Ka Dabba and Saqib Saleem has an impressive filmography (Bombay Talkies, Mujhse Fraandship Karoge, Mere Dad ki Maruti), aside being Huma Qureshi’s sibling.

However the best acts of the movie come from Partho Gupte (Amol’s son), his impoverished friends and the lady doing role of the mother. She tugs heart of the viewer every time she comes on screen.

Kids Rating (averaged) 4.5/5
My rating 3.5/5.

Box Office Prediction

Sunday evening Singapore barely had 50% hall filled so prospects are bleak. It’s doesn’t have the star power of Bhoothnath nor can it match the sleaze and masala of Himesh’s Xpose in coming days. It’s best bet is to make money in next 7 days when it has less competition and being small budget, will likely recover money.
