R.I.P. Mohammed Shahid – The wizard who got me hooked to Indian hockey

Mohammad-Shahid
RIP Mohammed Shahid and thanks for the memories

Former hockey player, Mohammed Shahid (14 April 1960 – 20 July 2016) breathed his last today, at a hospital in Gurgaon, after long-suffering from a serious liver disease. Shahid will rate amongst the best wizards India (and the game) has ever seen in the astro turf (post 1980s era) alongside fellow Indians Dhanraj Pillay and Gagan Ajit Singh.

Shahid is one of India’s best to have played the game and was known for his dribbling skills, running ability and push which was as fast as a hard hit. His attacking partnership on field with Zafar Iqbal was well known. He captained the Indian team during 1985–86.
