Killer Trailer: Pink promises hard hitting, real to life stuff

Produced by Shoojit Sircar and directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, recently released trailer of ‘Pink’ has raised eyebrows. And intrigue. Intrigue at why the movie is titled Pink (Pink with I and K acting as jail bars clutched by fists). Intrigue at why the lawyer Amitabh Bachchan is asking uncomfortable (and seemingly) unfair questions to Taapsee Pannu. Intrigue at what exactly happened. Rape, molestation or a fight back accident.

Intrigue at if this case reflects any real to life case – and India, shamefully, has a massive library of similar looking cases reported in media, every month. Many not reported. Intrigue at girl power where Taapsee Pannu challenges ‘stop talking and come and show me what you can do’.

Watch the trailer of this upcoming movie, which promises a lot.

Pink has few things going for it.

The star cast has mix of par excellence – Big B (albeit close to the Wazir look), Taapsee Pannu (who shined despite a limited role in Baby), multi talented Piyush Mishra, Bengal’s dependable actor Dhritiman Chatterjee – and intrigue – Jaya Bachchan (back on-screen), Angad Bedi (former India cricket captain Bishen Singh Bedi’s popular son) and Andrea Tariang (a multi-talented girl from Shillong).

Producer Shoojit Sircar has ensured quality always, as a director. Each of his movies have ranged from good to classic. Yahaan, Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe to Piku. Here’s a person who has been able to churn out heart touching ‘laughathons’ from somethings as basic as stool and masturbation. He almost ensures six sigma quality standards.

Director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury has had a mixed bag in the Bengali industry – but every four years he delivers one classic. His 2008 masterpiece Antaheen (Radhika Apte, Rahul Bose) is a must watch and so too is his 2012 flick Aparajito Tumi. It’s four years since, so in 2016, you can expect another delicious dish being served. The trailer does hold lot of promise.

Pink’s trailer has shades of the Anurag Kashyap’s much acclaimed movie Ugly, a genre I love, one which stays with the mind longer and has immense repeat value. Here’s hoping Pink betters Ugly and does well at box office too. Indians have no right to crib about Bollywood quality, when they themselves don’t visit the hall for good movies (and encourage the collections) and later unfairly start comparing them to a random Hollywood Classic. Visit the hall, help good movies become box office hits, do your part, spread the work and then take the armchair judge role!
